WHAT IS THE PRICE FOR ETERNITY?

WHAT IS THE PRICE FOR ETERNITY?

Death remains one of the greatest mysteries and most painful realities of human existence. No matter how old we grow or how spiritually enlightened we become, the sting of losing a loved one never truly fades. The death of a parent, a child, a friend, or even a good and promising person often leaves us questioning the very meaning of life itself.

‘If we will all still die, what then is the essence of living? Why build, love, or dream if it all ends in the grave?’

Two events that always capture my attention are weddings and burials, one is the celebration of beginnings and second is the mourning of endings. At weddings, we see the joy of new unions, hope, and promise. At burials, we witness the grief of separation, loss, and finality. Standing by a graveside, one thing becomes painfully clear: in those moments, family and friends would give anything; anything at all to have their loved one back. It is then that we realize how deeply we valued them, though too late to express it. Indeed, as the saying goes,

“You don’t know what you have until it’s gone.”

But here’s a question worth asking:

ARE WE TRULY GONE WHEN WE DIE?
Does death actually mean end, loss, or could it mean something deeper? Like a transition, a transportation to another beginning?

The Bible teaches us that those who die in Christ are not lost. They have only changed address, relocating from earth to eternity. But those who die outside of Christ are lost forever.

WHAT DO I MEAN?

Man was never made to die.

To understand why this situation very clearly, we must return to the beginning, to where the problem started. When God created man, He made him in His image, a reflection of His nature and His life. Man was designed to live forever. Death was never part of God’s plan.

“Then the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” Genesis 2:7

That “breath of life” was more than oxygen, it was divine life, Zoe, the very life of God flowing in man’s being. In that state, Adam (First Man) could not die. His body, soul, and spirit were in perfect harmony with Heaven.

But one instruction defined the boundary of this life:

“Of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day you eat of it you shall surely die.” — Genesis 2:17

When Adam disobeyed, something catastrophic happened. Sin entered into the world, and with sin, death entered the system.

“Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned.” — Romans 5:12

That one act of disobedience corrupted the human blueprint. The life-code in man’s spirit, once sustained by God’s breath was infected by sin, and his nature changed. From that moment, Adam became a mortal being. His spirit, once alive to God, died instantly. His soul began to decay over time. And his body became subject to sickness, weakness, and eventual death.

That is why the Bible says we are all “born in sin” (Psalm 51:5).

Every person born of Adam carries this altered spiritual DNA; a system already programmed to die.

    • Man became die-able.

    • Death became natural to him.

From the moment a child is born, the clock of decay begins to tick. This is not because God willed it so, but because sin rewired the structure of human life. Sin did not merely make man guilty, it made him mortal. We became beings born alive physically, but dead spiritually, disconnected from the Source of eternal life. This is what it means to be lost. Not merely lost geographically, but lost spiritually; out of alignment with the Life-source (God). No amount of good works, morality, or religious effort could fix this corruption. Man needed more than forgiveness; he needed a reconnection/restoration/reconciliation to the Life-source.

That’s why the greatest question of life is not how long we live, but where we go when life ends.

Is there something we can do to reverse this fate?

If there were a price for eternity, what would it be?

If there were a way to live forever, to never lose the ones we love, to never fear death again, wouldn’t you want to know that way?

The truth is, there is a way, there is such a price, and it has already been paid. Not with money, not with gold, not with the blood of animals — but with the precious blood of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

This is where the mystery of redemption unfolds.

If death came through a man, then life also had to come through a man.

But not just any man, a man untouched by Adam’s fallen nature. Every human born after Adam inherited that same corrupted DNA. No prophet, priest, or angel could reverse it, because all were born within the same fallen system or outside its human structure entirely.

It would take a man without sin, yet still fully man, to undo what Adam did. Someone who could stand between God and humanity as a perfect bridge. That’s why it had to be Jesus.

Jesus was not born of man’s seed; He was conceived by the Holy Spirit.

“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore, that Holy One who is born will be called the Son of God.” — Luke 1:35

His bloodline was pure, uncorrupted by the infection of sin. He carried the original life Adam lost; the divine life of God Himself.

He came as the second Adam, to restore what the first Adam destroyed.

“The first man Adam became a living soul; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.” 1 Corinthians 15:45.

Jesus’ mission was not merely to forgive sins; it was to reinstall life, to rewrite the code of humanity from within. By His death, He took our corruption; by His resurrection, He injected His incorruptible life into all who believe.

That’s why Scripture declares:

“For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.” 1 Corinthians 15:22

Only Jesus could do this because only He was both God enough to save and man enough to represent us. He satisfied divine justice as God, and He bore human guilt as man. Through that union, He became the perfect substitute, the only one capable of reversing the curse.

THE PRICE THAT REVERSED THE CURSE

On the Cross, Jesus took into Himself everything that came through Adam; sin, death, and separation from God. He bore it all, so that through His resurrection, He could release a new kind of life; eternal life. He didn’t come to make bad people good; He came to make dead people live again. He came to restore what was lost; the divine life connection.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” — John 3:16

    • This means whoever believes in Jesus will no longer carry that “death prompt” in their spirit. The corruption code is broken. They are reconnected to the Life of God, and can never be truly lost again.

    • Those who die in Christ have only stepped into a higher form of life.

    • Those who die without Christ remain under the old system; spiritually disconnected, and therefore eternally lost.

    • The root was sin.

    • The result was death.

    • The remedy is Christ.

    • The reward is eternal life

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” — John 3:16

Eternal life is a gift freely offered, but like every gift, it must be received. The price for eternity has been settled once and for all by Christ, yet only those who accept it by faith can enjoy its benefits.

When we understand and receive this gift, our perspective on death changes. We begin to see funerals not as the end, but as a graduation, transition; especially for those who die in Christ; as the crossing of a faithful soul into forever-life. We may still cry, but our tears are mixed with hope. We may mourn, but not as those who have no promise of reunion.

And so, as we live each day, let us not only prepare for success, wealth, or recognition, but for eternity. Because eternity is not a distant event; it’s a destination already waiting for us.

The price has been paid.

The question now is:

Have you accepted it?

HOW TO RECEIVE THE GIFT OF ETERNAL LIFE

    1. Acknowledge Your Need for Salvation
Recognize that sin separates you from God.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” — Romans 3:23
No one can earn eternal life through good deeds; it comes only by grace.

    1. Believe in Jesus Christ
Believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died for your sins and rose again.
“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” — Romans 10:9

    1. Confess and Receive Him Personally
Salvation is not automatic; it’s a personal decision.
      Say this sincerely:
“Lord Jesus, I believe You died for me. I confess my sins and receive You as my Lord and Saviour. Wash me clean and make me Yours forever. Amen.”

    1. Keep Eternity in View — Live each day conscious that this world is not your final home. Let every decision reflect Heaven’s values.

Death doesn’t have to be your end.
Loss doesn’t have to be your story.
Eternity is already paid for — in full.
All that’s left is for you to receive it, live in it, and share it.
